Tourist Points
The sheer size of the Amazon forest, beaches and beautiful rapids are some of the natural attraction which draw tourists to the region. Sports fishermen come to Porto Velho in pursuit of the large Amazon fish. However, the main attraction is the Madeira-Mamoré railroad which can be seen not only in the official museum but also in existing structures, such as the former station, the shunting sheds of the workshops, the water tanks (the postcard view of the city, also known as Três Marias) and the administrative building in the center. The railway is still preserved for several kilometers where there are platforms and stopping points, abandoned wagons, trolleys and locomotives on the line, along with their tracks and sleepers.
