Investing in people

At its peak the construction of the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Plant will involve around 10,800 direct workers. The company and the construction consortium (formed by the construction companies Norberto Odebrecht and Andrade Gutierrez, Alstom Hydro Energia Brasil Ltda., Bardella S.A. Indústrias Mecânicas, Areva Transmissão e Distribuição de Energia, Siemens Ltda., VA Tech Hydro Brasil Ltda. and Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation Ltda.) are committed to the development of the Rondônia and want to take the maximum advantage of the local workers. To do so, they began the professional training of local people through specific programs even before construction began.

The work by the construction consortium employees is being directed by the personnel department of Construtora Norberto Odebrecht which has more than 60 years´ experience of carrying out large-scale engineering projects in Brazil and over 20 other countries. The company adopts rigorous standards of health and safety at work in line with the labor and the environmental standards. Read more about this subject on the Odebrecht site.

ACREDITAR Program

To promote the inclusion of local professionals on the job market, Odebrecht carried out its Continuous Professional Qualification Program - called ACREDITAR - in Porto Velho (RO). The initiative involved investments of R$ 12 million and has registered more than 28,000 people.  The ACREDITAR system has an agreement with the Ministry of Social Development and Combating Hunger to provide 10,000 jobs for beneficiaries of the federal government´s social programs.

In partnership with the National Industrial Apprentice Service (Senai), the ACREDITAR Program aims to train and prepare local labor in four areas: machine operators, mechanics, electricians and homebuilding professionals. The participants in the courses are given preferences in being hired for the Santo Antônio hydroelectric plant works.
