Environmental Management
Santo Antônio Energia is responsible for conducting the processes which lead to the best environmental performance of the undertaking. For this reason, it has adopted an environmental management structure which allows it to supervise, control, communicate and correct the related programs and activities.
To make this task more objective and transparent, the environmental management of the Santo Antônio HEP is split into two area of activity:
1) Worksite
This is the center of the Santo Antônio HEP project and the environment it supports. It is run through the Environmental Construction Program which sets down criteria and specifications to prevent, control and offset the environmental impacts created by all the processes related to the construction, such as handling waste and transporting workers.
The Program is consolidated by the Environmental Management System (SGA), created to monitor and ensure that all the criteria and specifications are respected. It was based on standard ISO 14001:2004 (NBR ISO14001 - Environmental Management System - Specifications and Guidelines for Use).
Both the Program and the SGA are outlined in detail in volume I of the Basic Environmental Project (PBA).
2) Local and regional environment
This refers to the relationship between the Santo Antônio HEP and the environment outside the worksite during the construction and operation of the project. It includes the monitoring, conservation and compensation programs laid down in the Basic Environmental Plan.
